The Flying Theater Immersive 4D Experience

Project Overview:
SensoryCo provided scenting machines and aromas to DOF Robotics to integrate the sense of smell into their project, The Flying Theater in Guadalajara, Mexico. DOF Robotics is known for its flagship offering, the Flying Theater, designed to simulate the exhilarating sensation of flight. This multi-sensory experience combines a 6-DOF motion platform, sweeping panoramic dome screen that measures over 20 meters high and projects 8k content, including visuals, and synchronized sensory effects integrating an immersive sound system, motion effects, lighting, wind, water, mist, and ambient scents. With a capacity to engage up to 40 guests, seats are forward-facing toward the domed screen, giving them the sensation of flying while completely immersing them in a dramatic virtual reality experience by creating a powerful illusion of soaring over vivid settings that tell a story of the land.

The Flying Theater is an “emotional engineering” experience that layers atmospheric special effects. Guests can feel wind and water sprays, as well as inhale carefully timed scents that align with the on-screen visuals.  SensoryCo’s scent technology is integrated into this project to create the coordinated scenic smells. Aromas include Incense, Ocean Marine, and Rain Forest smells that are distributed with the use of the SensoryCo SMX-4DS/T scenting system. These scented components blend seamlessly with the sweeping audio, ambient effects, and synchronized movement to create a deeply immersive cinematic journey that engages all the senses and truly transports guests into the story. The ease of SensoryCo’s scalability, portability, and installation enhanced the development timeline of the project.

SensoryCo Technical Detail: How it Works
The SensoryCo SMX-4DS/T aroma system is a dry-scent delivery platform utilizing drop-in media cartridges. Each unit supports up to three independent aromas, chambered separately to prevent cross-contamination, and activated via relay contact closure. The system is designed for integration with external controls, allowing precise synchronization with show systems, simulators, or automation protocols. Dry delivery ensures no atomized oils are introduced into the environment, eliminating residue and reducing risk to electrical and mechanical components.
